More and more people these days, in this era of a global recession, are finding themselves drawn toward the idea of starting their own business by doing some type of marketing online. An online business offers people a great deal of flexibility and a huge number of options that they can pursue to turn a profit. One of the easiest ways to get started in such a business is to do affiliate marketing.

There are numerous affiliate programs available today for those who want to get into internet marketing and begin to make money. One of the most popular and widely known affiliate programs on the internet is for www.amazon.com. However, the Amazon program is only one of tens of thousands of programs that an affiliate marketer can choose from.

The way that affiliate marketing works is quite simple. Companies such as Amazon, or eBay or DishNetwork provide an affiliate internet marketing program for internet marketers to participate in. The marketer signs up for the affiliate program and will typically wait for a day or so to be approved by the company.

Once the marketer who has applied to become an affiliate is approved by the company, they will then have a special website link that they can use to promote the company. Within the link there is special coding that tells the website merchant that a visitor has come to the website via the marketing campaigns and promotional efforts of the affiliate. When the visitor makes a purchase and becomes a customer, the affiliate has earned a commission!

In addition to the affiliate marketing programs run by individual companies, there are also many marketing programs that a marketer can join that will give them access to a large number of companies that offer a huge number of products and services in virtually every market segment. A good example of such an affiliate program is Commission Junction, which can be found at www.cj.com.

There is no question that affiliate marketing has been set up to be a win-win deal for both the company and for the affiliate marketer. The win-win scenario stems from the fact that both parties are able to gain something each time there is a successful transaction. The company benefits from their brand being promoted but at the same time, they have no cash outlay unless there is a sale made. For the affiliate, they have virtually no overhead and no hassles of running a traditional business, but they benefit from sales made through their efforts.

There are many, many opportunities available to make money on your computer. The problem is trying to figure out which is right for you. You might want to learn affiliate marketing, or set up pay per click campaigns, just as a couple of options.
