Be Aware Of Obesity Risks

February 1, 2010 by Mark Walters

While people do not technically die of obesity, between 100,000 to 400,000 Americans die each year from the diseases associated with it. Even at the conservative estimates, it is still a massive death toll; much greater than other causes of death which receive a lot more press attention.

So, who exactly is classed as being obese? A formula called the body mass index, or BMI, is used to work out who is obese. While those with BMIs of between 25 and 29 are classified as being overweight, those with a BMI of between 30 and 40 are considered obese.

Keep in mind that the heart must pump blood 24 hours a day to supply and move this extra weight, and it puts a big strain on it to do so. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, and those with a BMI of above 25 have at least twice the risk of dying from it.

Since over 80% of people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes are also overweight, there is also a clear link between obesity and diabetes. Furthermore, it appears that being overweight increases the risk of some types of cancers, such as that of the kidneys and colon.

These are just some of the fatal diseases to have been directly linked to being obese. Diseases that are usually not life threatening, but affect quality of life, such as Osteoarthritis, are also a much greater risk for those who are overweight.

Those who are overweight need to take action if they are serious about living a long life. While there is a ton of information available on the Internet, it is advisable to check with a physician and use some common sense.

By first being aware of the dangers of obesity, people can hopefully be motivated to lose weight. Those at risk should check their BMI and take action today.

Botox Treatments : Answers To Commonly Asked Questions

December 17, 2009 by Mark Walters

The treatment of ageing skin was revolutionized by the introduction of botox, and it has become so popular that is now officially the most performed non-surgical cosmetic procedure. Still, despite its popularity, and the huge amount that has been written about it, there are many common questions that people have about it, such as…

1. What is botox? It is a purified protein which, when injected into a muscle, leads to a temporary muscular relaxation. Frown lines, worry lines and laughter lines are all caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles, and relaxing these muscles with botox injections is a quick, safe and effective way to smooth and soften wrinkles.

2. What will happen during the treatment? The actual procedure takes just 5-10mins and involves a small number of injections of botox solution directly into the muscle groups causing wrinkling.

3. What post-treatment care is required? You do not need to take any medications after receiving botox injections. All you need to do is perform facial exercises at regular intervals throughout the rest of the day once you have undergone the treatment.

4. How quickly will I notice an effect? Results are not instantaneous, and typically take a couple of days to initially become noticeable. The full effects tend to take around 7-14 days.

5. How many visits to a cosmetic surgeon are required? This varies from individual to individual, but most people tend to have 3-4 treatments over the course of the first year. The duration of effect often increases with each repeat treatment, and eventually you may only require one maintenance treatment per year.

6. If I do not have repeat treatments, will my face ‘droop’?? Absolutely not. The treatment is completely reversible there are no permanent effects. In fact, your skin is likely to have benefited from the period of reduced muscle contraction, as wrinkle formation is slower during this time.

7. Is there a chance that botox will make my face expressionless? Unless you have far too many botox injections, which only unscrupulous, and most probably unlicensed, cosmetic surgeons would administer, the there is no chance of your face losing its ability to express whatever emotions that it normally can.

8. Are there any side effects? There may be slight discomfort as the needle enters the skin, and there is the possibility of a small bruise at the site of the injection. Other side effects are rare but include slight drooping of the eyelid, which usually resolves itself in a week or so, and headaches. No long term side-effects have been reported.

9. How safe is it? Whilst no medical procedure can ever be deemed to be 100% safe, that fact that botox has been approved by medical authorities in more than 60 countries, and has been in use for over 15 years, can taken as evidence that it is, for the vast majority of people, safe.

Overcoming Panic Attacks and Anxiety Disorder

We live in a stressful world these days, and so it’s hardly a surprise that so many people suffer from acute forms of anxiety. In fact, a significant amount of people need to find ways of overcoming panic attacks on a daily basis. I also used to suffer from attacks of anxiety, so I know what a real and debilitating problem they are. To stop my panic attacks, I sought a solution myself, and that was to take control of my thoughts and mind again, and not to rely on prescription drugs, which can only ever really be a short term measure.

So, how did I come up with the solution that stopped my anxiety episodes? Well, let me first say that I’m not a doctor or psychologist, or a medical practitioner of any sort for that matter. I was just a desperate suffer of panic attacks that was determined to try anything to stop them. I set about reading and researching as much as I could on the topic, and tried out various methods, such as breathing techniques and thinking happy thoughts. The problem was that nearly all of the methods that I came across were coping techniques, which would never solve the problem outright. Eventually though, my persistence paid off, and I came across a method that stops anxiety episodes altogether, by really getting to the root of the problem.

The key point in the method was to understand that anxious thoughts pop up in the minds of everybody, not just panic disorder sufferers. So, the important question is then what makes us sufferers different from those non-sufferers? They don’t have the same reaction as we do to the same situations. When an anxious thought comes to our mind, our body reacts to it intensely. And when our body reacts to it so strongly, we feel the need to examine that thought even closer, which makes our bodies react even stronger. The people who don’t have anxiety attacks symptoms don’t examine the thought so closely because they don’t react that much to it. And when they don’t react much to it, they don’t examine it closely! See the “cycle of fear” that makes the attacks so persistent and strong? Event A happens, event B happens because of it; and then event A gets stronger because of event B. What you need to do is break this cycle.

To break the cycle of fear that arises from a single anxious thought, you need to follow a three step process: label – watch – proceed. When the anxious thought first arises, you need to label it as such, literally tell yourself that “this is an anxious thought”. Don’t try to ignore it, instead confront it. Then, watch and be aware of the reactions that your body is giving, and know that you have the power to control them, just as you control your reactions when you have happy thoughts. Finally, proceed with what you were doing prior to the anxious thought. It’s done, it’s over with, it was an insignificant part of your day.

This method isn’t complicated and, if it worked for me, and I was a bad anxiety sufferer, then it can help you in overcoming panic attacks too.

If you would like more information on overcoming panic attacks, be sure to visit my blog. I have been a sufferer and have managed to cure panic attacks.

Super Affiliate Guru Secrets – 3 Steps To Affiliate Programs Success!

What is the easiest way to make money on the internet? According to many super affiliate gurus, the answer is affiliate marketing.

An affiliate (also called associate or partner), is someone who is selling other people’s products. The affiliate marketer takes advantage of the notoriety of the merchant to sell his products, and he will be paid a commission on every sale he makes.

For both the creators of products and marketers, this is an ideal situation. Product creators get huge publicity and exposure for their products without having to spend money on advertising (which is the responsibility of the affiliates), and affiliates can earn an extra income without having to think of and create a new product.

Even better, in some programs, which are called two-tiers affiliate programs, you will be paid on your sales and on your affiliate team’s sales. In this case you will be a master affiliate: the people that you recruited are selling the same merchant’s products, but you will be able to coach them and you will also earn a commission on all their sales. That can represent a good monthly income for you too.

If the thought of becoming a super affiliate guru appeals to you, then you just need to follow this 3 point plan…

1. You must have a landing page. 2. You must capture the name and email addresses of your prospects. 3. You must follow up with your autoresponder to sell other products again and again to your prospects.

Make sure you capture your visitors email because most of your visitors won’t buy the first time they visit your website, and if another affiliate directs him (with his tracker cookies) to the website, and he finally decides to buy the product, you will lose the commission!

An added bonus to doing this is that when you create your own product, you will already have a list of prospects ready to buy from you. Providing you have consistently sent them useful information and products in the past, when you contact them to let them know about your own product, they will be more than willing to make a purchase from you.

This is a tried and test approach that super affiliate gurus swear by. It really is as simple as following the 3 point plan set out above. Follow that plan and you too can soon be earning the type of money that other affiliates are already earning on a daily basis.

Preventing And Curing Fingernail Fungus

October 27, 2009 by Mark Walters

It is not just the fingers that are susceptible to fingernail fungus, toenails are also at risk from it. Excessive thickening or softening of the nails is the primary symptom, though discoloration of them is also not uncommon. Often times, this fingernail fungus can be a very difficult condition to manage and can also cause some serious damage to the persons fingernails, which could eventually lead to nail loss.

Our nails are great at keeping infections at bay – not surprising really when you consider that acting as a protective barrier is the reason that we have them at all. The problem is that should an infection (fungus) manage to penetrate them, then the same protective nature of the nails makes it difficult for us to penetrate them also in order to treat the problem.

Fingernails fungus is contagious, which is why it is fairly widespread. The organisms that cause the infection spread from one person to the next where the air is moist and where peoples feet are bare (such as in public pools and beaches). Even the simple sharing of a nail file can help spread the infection so as a precaution, do not share nail files.

And in what ways is fingernail fungus normally passed from one person to the next? Literal contact, such as standing with bare feet, or placing an uncovered hand, in an infected area is the main cause of new infections. With the using of contaminated items (shoes, gloves, towels, etc.) being another. Items stored in damp or sweaty places, or those that have been sweated in without being properly cleaned afterwards, pose the greatest risk.

The increasingly popular trend of applying acrylic nails also contributes to the spread of fingernail fungus. The unnatural processes that nails undergo as result of this beauty treatment break into their protective barrier and increase the possibility of fungus getting inside. It’s also quite possible that an already infected nail, which is showing as yet unnoticeable symptoms, has an acrylic nail placed over it, which then gives it a perfect, moist environment in which to develop.

Don’t overly worry though should you find yourself to be infected with nail fungus as it can be effectively treated. If you have the infection already then you can try over the counter or alternative treatments. If those don’t work then you should seek more potent medications which your health provider would prescribe for you.

However, prevention is still the best treatment. As such, you should always keep your nails well groomed and your feet well ventilated and dry. As much as possible, stay away from artificial nails and be sure that the tools used by your manicurist are well sanitized. You should find out if they do sanitize their tools and if not, then its time to find yourself a new manicurist.

Keep in mind that your nails can say a lot about your current health condition. Look after them, and give them the same care and attention that you give to the other parts of your body.

So, you’re tired of waiting around and want to know how to get pregnant fast? Well, it is something that can be sped up if you pay attention to certain factors, most notably knowing at what time of the month your body is at its most fertile. Knowing how your body works can help you on your path to getting pregnant quickly.

Investing in a special pregnancy kit that helps you to determine at what time of the month you begin ovulating is a recommended approach. These kits can be purchased online or at drug stores, and are fairly simple to use.

If you feel you can wait a couple of months, you can try and track your own cycles at home, beginning with the first day of your menstrual cycles but, if you are in a real hurry, you can cut down your research time by just investing in a ready made kits.

However, if you know your own cycle already you should start taking your temperature around the 12th day to see if it increases, so you know when you are about to ovulate and then you are able to try and conceive.

To increase your fertility and chances of conceiving faster, there are also certain vitamins and supplements that you can take. Just ask an employee at your local health food store to recommend some to you. If you have tried these natural pregnancy aids without success, then consulting with your doctor should be your next step.

Those asking about how to get pregnant fast will often be prescribed by their doctors a medication called Clomid. This helps to stimulate the hormones that are responsible for you ovulating.

Be forewarned though that twins and other multiples can occur from the usage of Clomid! If you are fine with having a multiple birth then Clomid is something that you should give serious consideration to. Just remember to always be sure to get the medication from your doctor, and not to buy it online from places who sell it without a prescription.
